geroginacook2Work that can be considered transgressive- either the content, the presentation, or both undermine what is normally expected of work. Each makes unusual demands for the audience. I challenge this by exploiting my female body. Within my performance practice I want my audience to feel as uncomfortable and awkward in the experience as I do, until it becomes something else. Each participant are generally coaxed into behaving differently through the use of voyeurism. This is when the encounter becomes uncomfortably intimate. My work is about challenging relationships between myself (performer) and my audience, as a result, the experience becomes an ‘us’, my audience is very valuable to me and my practice, without them, the performance would not work. Their role is to discover whether they agree with the ethics they are seeing in front of them and do they engage or do they disengage?
