My art plays with ideas of aspiration, success and failure. As children we have such high expectations and aspirations, we want to be astronauts and princesses etc. However as we grow up, some of these expectations have to be compromised to reality. I explore this notion using a language of metaphorical everyday objects as well as a sense of child-like craft that humorously ties it all together. My art has elements of pop culture, sci-fi and cartoon in it as well as referencing art history.
I believe that art should be like a frozen scene left for the viewer to figure out the artist’s statement with the given clues I’ve left behind. Some of these scenes will be celebratory and jubilant success stories; others will be melancholic tales of failure. Either way, these are hopefully entertaining enough that the audience comes away sufficiently amused.
